What to Wear to a Bonfire

Hey y’all-it’s hard to believe we’re in the final few days of October! Yesterday it got up to 84 degrees in Durham, and today it was in the 70’s. This makes it extra hard to fathom that November is literally right around the corner. However, my weather app currently shows that cooler temperatures will roll in with November on Friday. The impending arrival of consistently cooler weather means that it’s the perfect time for a fall bonfire! I conveniently have plans to go to a bonfire the next two weekends. So, today I’m sharing some inspiration on what to wear to a bonfire!

The photos in this post are actually from my BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) class’ bonfire last fall. But since I didn’t share them on the blog last year, I figured now is the perfect time. Plus, I plan on wearing something similar to the two bonfires I have coming up this year!

Sherpa Pullover

A bonfire on a chilly fall night is the perfect occasion to break out one of my cozy Lauren James Sherpa pullovers. If you’ve followed me since last fall/winter, then you know I’m obsessed with these and have them in multiple colors. This coral Lauren James Sherpa I’m wearing is no longer available, but you can choose from a variety of other colors here.

You can also find cute Sherpa pullovers from some other preppy brands: Vineyard Vines, LL Bean. and Southern ShirtPatagonia, has a cozy option as well. If you’re on more of a budget, Nordstrom has their best-selling Wubby Fleece Pullover on sale for 35% off right now, making it under $50. You can shop the Nordstrom pullover here.

Accessorize with a Scarf

Although I need to take extra care not to get marshmallow goo on it, I like to accessorize my Sherpa pullover with a Lilly Pulitzer scarf sometimes. The Lilly scarf I’m wearing is several years old, but they have an infinity scarf currently available, and it retails for less than $50. This is definitely the lowest price point I’ve ever seen on a women’s Lilly scarf! You can check out the infinity scarf here, and another one of my current favorite Lilly scarves here.

Bonfire Boots

You can’t really see my shoes in any of these pictures, but last year I wore my trusty cowgirl boots to the bonfire. I didn’t get my Bean Boots until Christmas, so this is my first fall owning a pair. This year I’m planning to wear my Bean Boots to the bonfires. Back in the winter I wrote a detailed blog post on shopping for LL Bean Boots. If you’ve been wanting a pair but are unsure about fit, sizing, etc, you can check out that post here. It’s actually one of the most-read posts on my blog. And if you still have questions about shopping for LL Bean Boots, feel free to email me!

Don’t Forget a Hat!

If it’s going to be a particularly chilly night, don’t forget to bring a knit hat to the bonfire. It’s crazy how much body heat we lose through our heads, and what a difference wearing a hat makes. My hat is actually a Lauren James one I got on sale a couple years ago and unfortunately they no longer have hats. If you need to pick up a hat (and/or gloves), Old Navy and Target are two go-to budget-friendly options. LL Bean also has no shortage of cold weather gear like hats.

Bonfire Fun

Hope that you enjoyed this post and that it provided you with some helpful ideas on what to wear to a bonfire. I just love this fun fall activity because it’s hard to beat standing around a fire enjoying fellowship and s’mores. In fact, I don’t think I’ve had a s’more since last fall, and I’m already thinking about how good one is going to taste this weekend!
