Hey y’all-hope you’re had a great week. I’m still getting settled into my new place, but feel like I’ve made some good progress. Today I’m sharing my top 10 Beautycounter items for first-time customers to try. Beautycounter is actually offering new customers 10% off their first purchase right now. There are a few exceptions, but almost everything site-wide is included! Beautycounter has makeup, skincare, and body products made with safer ingredients. Since there’s such a wide variety of products to choose from, the website might be a bit overwhelming for a first-time customer. So, I want to share my top 10 picks for someone looking to get started with clean beauty products from Beautycounter! I selected these products based on their appeal to a wide variety of people. If you need more specialized skincare recommendations, you may fill out my FREE skincare consultation questionnaire. Please feel free to email me as well!
Note: This post contains links to my personalized Beautycounter website, and if you make a purchase through these links, I will earn a commission, but at no additional cost to you! If you aren’t already connected with a Beautycounter consultant, I would love to help you out with the switch to safer products. Thank you so much for your support of my Beautycounter business!
What Makes Beautycounter Different?
Before I dive into my top 10 Beautycounter items for first-time customers to try, I want to share more about what makes Beautycounter different from other cosmetic companies. Beautycounter rigorously screens ingredients for safety, and bans intentionally. As a result, Beautycounter has 1800 ingredients on their Never List, which means these ingredients NEVER go in Beautycounter products. Ingredients on the Beautycounter Never List include known or potential irritants, carcinogens, and hormone disrupters. In contrast, the US hasn’t passed a major federal law concerning personal care product safety in over 80 years! In addition, the US only bans or limits around 30 ingredients in cosmetic products. Thus, many of the makeup and skincare on shelves today contain harmful or questionable ingredients.
In addition to Beautycounter’s above and beyond commitment to ingredient safety, they advocate for more health protective laws in the personal care industry. Beautycounter’s mission is the get safer products in the hands of everyone. And people like myself have joined the movement as consultants to educate others about the importance of choosing safer products. I also consider it an honor to be an additional voice in Beautycounter’s important advocacy efforts so that hopefully one day all beauty will be clean beauty. For more about my story and why I switched to safer products, check out this post. If you want to learn more about clean beauty, you may .
Now, in no particular order, here are my top 10 Beautycounter items for first-time customers to try:
1. Citrus Mimosa Body Wash
The Citrus Mimosa Body Wash was one of the first Beautycounter products I tried, and it’s still one of my favorites! It lathers nicely, and has the most amazing citrus smell. However, Beautycounter doesn’t use any artificial fragrance to get this amazing smell! Did you know that companies aren’t required to disclose what’s in their fragrance because it’s considered a trade secret? As a result, all sorts of harmful or questionable ingredients could be in there! Beautycounter only uses natural fragrance, and they are completely transparent about what’s in it!
2. Citrus Mimosa Body Lotion
This hydrating body lotion features the same lovely scent as the body wash. It’s really great to have around for dry hands from all the extra hand washing during COVID! Also, InStyle magazine featured Beautycounter Citrus Mimosa Body Lotion in their April 2019 issue as one of the top 8 body lotions with clean ingredient! All of these make great reasons its a top Beautycounter item for first-time customers to try!
3. Dew Skin SPF 20 Tinted Moisturizer
I ordered Dew Skin in my very first Beautycounter order, and it’s still one of my top product recommendations! Dew Skin comes in six different shades, but it’s very sheer, so no need to stress about shade-matching. This is perfect for someone who wants a low-maintenance, natural looking makeup routine. Don’t expect Dew Skin to cover every blemish or imperfection. However, it does help even skin tone and provides an extra glow. The SPF is a bonus as well!
4. Charcoal Mask
If you love at-home self-care with a face mask, the Beautycounter Charcoal Mask won’t disappoint! The charcoal mask is one of Beautycounter’s hero products. You can incorporate it into any skincare routine, but those with oily or blemish-prone skin will find it extra beneficial! The Beautycounter Charcoal Mask deep cleans your pores and balances your complexion. Plus, it has a refreshing peppermint smell!
5. Overnight Resurfacing Peel
The Beautycounter Overnight Resurfacing Peel is a fabulous add-on to any skincare regimen! It’s a chemical Exfoliator with resurfacing acids that slough away dead skin cells while you sleep to reveal a brighter, more even complexion. It also has soothing acids, so you don’t have to worry about the irritation that’s present with some chemical peels. The Overnight Resurfacing Peel is especially great for anyone who struggles with full or uneven skin tone.
6. Sheer Genius Conditioning Lipstick
The Sheer Genius Conditioning Lipstick is Beautycounter’s improved version of their best-selling Sheer Lipstick, and it just launched last month. While this lipstick has updated packaging, it’s most significant selling point is that it’s scented with ethically sourced vanilla. The vanilla industry is known for human rights violations, and Beautycounter wants to make sure that their vanilla only comes from sources with humane labor practices. Allure recently did a feature on Beautycounter’s new lip products with ethically sourced vanilla, which you can check out here.
I thought I loved Beautycounter’s Sheer Lipstick, but the Sheer Genius Conditioning Lipstick is even better! It goes on so smooth and creamy, with rich color pay-off. I bought Rosewood, which is a great neutral for fall, and can’t wait to try more colors. The Sheer Genius Conditioning Lipstick isn’t included in the 10% off promo for new customers, since it’s a new product. However, first-time customers can still save 10% on the Sheer Lipstick. Although Beautycounter is phasing it out, it’s still a great product!
7. Classic Eyeshadow Palette
Beautycounter Velvet Eyeshadow Palettes are a great buy for anyone wanting to switch their makeup over to safer options. I have the Velvet Eyeshadow Palette in Romantic, but recommend the Classic to new customers since the colors are the most neutral and universally appealing. The Beautycounter Classic Eyeshadow Palette features nine different shades, which are nicely pigmented. It’s important to note that Beautycounter triple tests all its color cosmetics to make sure they don’t contain unsafe trace amounts of heavy metals, like lead. Makeup companies don’t intentionally add lead to their color cosmetics, but since heavy metals naturally occur in the earth, trace amounts find their way into products. With Beautycounter’s extra measures for testing, you can rest reassured that your eye shadow doesn’t contain unsafe amounts of lead!
In addition, Beautycounter is in the process of conducting in-person audits of all the mica mines that they source from to make sure they employ ethical labor practices. Mica is what gives makeup like blush and eyeshadow their shimmer. However, the mica industry is known for inhumane labor practices, particularly child labor. Unfortunately, a certificate indicating that a mica mine employs ethical labor does not necessarily mean that is the case. So, Beautycounter is committed to visiting all their mica mines in person to make sure they don’t use child labor or other questionable practices. COVID has slowed this process down, but it’s still in the works!
8. All Bright C Serum
Beautycounter’s Vitamin C Serum launched in April 2020, and sold out in just three weeks because the demand for it at launch was higher than headquarters anticipated. The good news is that the All Bright C Serum is now back in stock! Incorporating a Vitamin C Serum into my morning skincare routine has been a game-changer the past several months. I feel like my skin has an extra glow to it.
Using a Vitamin C Serum helps brighten and firm skin, and it works for all skin types. If you have dark spots and dullness, you will especially benefit from using a Vitamin C Serum. Beautycounter All Bright C Serum using an extra stable form of Vitamin C, so it has a longer shelf life than other brands of Vitamin C Serum. While the All Bright C Serum isn’t included in the 10% off promo for new customers, I still wanted to highlight it because it’s an amazing product that works for anyone!
9. Tinted Brilliant Brow Gel
I first purchased Beautycounter Brilliant Brow Gel a year ago, and it’s been an amazing addition to my makeup routine. I seriously don’t know how I went so long without filling in my brows. My natural brows are on the thin side from a lot of waxing in the early 2000s, back when thin brows were in! Just a swipe of tinted brow gel makes a huge difference!
10. Counterstart Cococream Cleanser
Earlier this year, Beautycounter launched a new basic cleanser, the Counterstart Cococream Cleanser. At $20, it’s Beautycounter’s least expensive cleanser, making it a great choice if you’re new to Beautycounter and just getting started with the switch to safer products. It’s also a great cleanser for anyone who has sensitive skin, or anyone who doesn’t have any other major skin concerns.
