Hey y’all-hope you’re having a good week! Today I’m sharing my three step low maintenance makeup routine. As much as I enjoy discovering new makeup products (especially since becoming a Beautycounter consultant), you will rarely see me with a full face of makeup, even for a night out or special event. My approach to makeup is definitely “less is more,” and I spend 10 minutes max applying makeup. Furthermore, I can’t remember the last time I wore a true foundation. If you prefer a full face of makeup, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. You do you! However, I know that my time is limited, plus I’m almost always in a rush. (Time management is not my forte- working on it though!) Therefore, my ideal makeup routine is one with minimal steps, that takes five minutes tops. I choose my products wisely to enhance the features I want to enhance. My standard makeup routine these days involves 4-5 products. However, if I’m running extra short on time, I pare it down to the following three step makeup routine!

Step One: Beautycounter Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer
As I mentioned above, it has been years since I’ve worn a true foundation. Although I am open to using foundation again in the future, I’m content with lighter coverage for my base face makeup. My skin isn’t flawless, but I’m overall happy with how it looks and don’t feel the need to cover it with heavy makeup. Beautycounter Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer is the perfect solution for me. This was one of the first Beautycounter products I tried two months ago, and it’s still part of my daily routine.
Dew Skin is multifunctional, so it’s great if you’re like me and wanting to save time and consolidate steps. It provides sheer coverage for your skin tone. Because it’s so light it doesn’t blur out every imperfection. However, it does even out your skin tone and add radiance, thanks to the Vitamin C. Secondly, it serves as a moisturizer. And most importantly, it has SPF 20. My top anti-aging skincare tip is to wear SPF daily
on your face, regardless of how much time you will spend outside. Although I wear an actual sunscreen of at least SPF 30 on my face if I’m going to be spending the day lounging at the beach or pool, Beautycounter Dew Skin is sufficient for my daily facial SPF needs. Step Two: Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara
I first mentioned the Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara and Lash Primer in my May Favorites post last week. It might surprise you that my makeup routine isn’t 100% Beautycounter. I touch on this more in my May Favorites, but while Beautycounter is my favorite clean beauty brand and primary go-to for makeup, it’s not the only thing I will use. The Honest Beauty mascara has clean ingredients, and it’s the best fit for me in terms of budget and performance. In addition, Beautycounter’s primary mission is to get safer products in the hands of everyone, not necessarily exclusively Beautycounter products in the hands of everyone.
Although the Honest Beauty Mascara and Lash Primer might technically be two steps, I’m still considering this one step. They come in the same tube, and application is so quick due to how efficient this product is. Therefore, it honestly only feels like one step. Applying the lash primer first only adds about 40 seconds to this routine (10 seconds for actual application, 30 seconds to sit before applying mascara). Plus it definitely makes the mascara go on smoothly and evenly, providing an amazing lengthening effect without having to do tons of coats. I’m so happy with how this makes my lashes look!
You can shop Honest Beauty Mascara directly from their website here, and from Target here.
Step Three: Beautycounter Lipstick
For my final step, I will apply Beautycounter lipstick. The safer skincare options are what initially drew me to Beautycounter, because in recent years my tendency has been to invest more in skincare. However, when I tried the Beautycounter lipstick that came in my consultant kit, it was literally love at first swipe! Lipstick actually might be my favorite Beautycounter product, and I look forward to using it every day. In fact, if I could only wear one makeup item daily, it would be lipstick. That’s how into Beautycounter lipstick I am!
All the pictures in this post show the Beautycounter Sheer Lipstick in Rose Shimmer. However, I alternate between the Sheer formula and Color Intense formula. I think the Sheer is probably my favorite, but I honestly love both and there are pros to both. The Sheer formula is very moisturizing, and has a lovely vanilla scent and taste. However, I love how the Color Intense formula provides super vibrant color with just one swipe. It’s also very long-lasting, and has an amazing peppermint taste and smell. I currently have two shades of the Sheer lipstick, and four shades of the Color Intense lipstick. This enables me to rotate shades based on the colors in my outfit, and my mood! The Completed Look
And there you have it, my three-step low maintenance makeup routine. In the picture below, I’m wearing all three of these makeup products, and no additional makeup. (PS. My earrings are from Allie Marie, and they are some of my favorites).
On most days, if time permits, I will add in blush, and then eye shadow. I will also use a dab of concealer on blemishes. However, tinted moisturizer, mascara, and lipstick are my top three essentials. In addition, I am completely confident enough to leave my place with no makeup on, especially if I’m really in a hurry. I also don’t wear makeup if I’m going to the pool or beach. And if I’ve been somewhere earlier in the day before hitting the pool/beach, I actually remove my mascara first. However, I do love the way just a little bit of makeup enhances natural features and makes them pop.
If I could only wear one makeup item each day, it would definitely be lipstick. I asked my Instagram followers this question, and mascara was definitely the most popular response. I also asked how many makeup items are in your standard makeup routine. The responses ranged from as few as 2-3, to as many as 15! Most of y’all who answered were in the 4-8 item range. Finally, I asked how many items are in your bare minimum makeup routine. Answers ranged from 0 to 10, and most of the people who replied were in the 2-3 item range.
Hope y’all enjoyed this post and that it gave you some inspiration for a quick and easy minimal makeup routine. What’s your makeup routine like on a typical day, and what do you pare it down to when you’re in a rush? Also, what’s your favorite makeup item?
