Had a blast last night kicking off the Christmas season with a girls’ night at @angusbarn to see the gorgeous decorations (more pics to come soon!). We had lots of laughs, and the night became even more memorable when we shut the place down and realized the staff had accidentally locked us inside 😂. Shoutout to the Angus Barn worker who let us out the “employees only” door when they couldn’t find the key 😂

Then this morning in the group chat we realized we all had trouble sleeping last night, which led us to believe we accidentally got regular coffee instead of decaf. We weren’t upset though, because despite the insomnia, it gave us a good laugh and a great story 😂

Fall has flown by-can’t believe Thanksgiving is less than a week away! Flashback to one of my Fall 2023 highlights—a few weeks ago I got to snag a photo opp with @ms.wuf and @mr.wuf when I was on NC State’s campus. I may be a Tar Heel and a Tiger, but I do love these two mascots! Ms. Wuf especially knows how to work a crowd! And she’s definitely a fashion icon! 🐺 💋

Also, little did I know the day I wore this FRIENDS t-shirt I got from @oldnavy a couple years ago that Matthew Perry would pass away the very next day 😢 My tradition of watching all the Thanksgiving-themed FRIENDS episodes over the next week is definitely going to hit different with Matthew Perry gone.

NC State, Ms. Wuf, Mr. Wuf, Wolfpack, Mascot Pics

This afternoon I took a break to run over to Duke’s East Campus and visit the @llbean Bootmobile Pop-Up Shop! Last year the Bootmobile came to my area, but it was 30 minutes away and during the busy Christmas season, so I ended up not going. I’m glad the Bootmobile came back to the Triangle this year, and it was only a little over 10 minutes away so was easier for me to go! They had boots, socks, and outerwear for sale, and everything was 10% off! I grabbed a two-pack of merino wool socks to wear with my Bean Boots this winter! And many thanks to the kind person who thought I was young enough to be a student and told me that anyone with a dot.edu email address gets 10% off all the time 😂

It was an unseasonably warm fall day, so I wouldn’t typically wear my Bean Boots on a day like today. But I had to put them in for a photo opp with the Bootmobile! And I got a free Bean Boot keychain for wearing my boots to the pop-up (swipe to see). I also got some fun free stickers they had for everyone! Bean Boots are one of my fall/winter wardrobe staples, and I would love to visit the headquarters in Maine and get a picture with the huge iconic boot some day! But for now, I’m glad that I got to get a pic with the Bootmobile! It was fun quick afternoon excursion. Have you ever seen the Bootmobile?

This year I am Birdie, the McDonaldland character! Birdie, along with Grimace, Hamburgular, and Ronald McDonald bring back nostalgia from my childhood visits to @mcdonalds in the 90’s! Who else remembers the McDonaldland characters?

I debuted my Birdie costume to pass out candy at my church’s Trunk or Treat last weekend, and am wearing it again to my small group’s Halloween party tonight!

A couple weeks ago I saw @carolinaballet production of “Frankenstein,” which also featured two shorter spooky-themed ballets. If you’re looking for something fun and themed to do this Halloweekend, you can catch their final performances at 7:30pm tonight (Oct. 28) and 2:00pm tomorrow (Oct. 29). 👻

(There’s also a 2:00pm performance today, but it will probably already have started by the time most people see this.)

Frankenstein is in Fletcher Opera Theater, which is a smaller and more intimate theater than the adjacent Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. There’s really not a bad seat in the house! Carolina Ballet performances are one of my new favorite local things to do!

Also, prior to seeing this ballet, I thought that “Frankenstein” was the name of the monster, not the guy who created the monster. Clearly I was not an English major 😂. Did anyone else have this misconception?
.

A “fairly” great time! 🐏🌽🎃🎡

I took Thursday afternoon off from work and treated myself to a solo trip to the NC State Fair! This was my first time in four years going to the fair. After going seven consecutive years from 2013-2019, a four-year hiatus seemed like quite awhile. Highlights of my trip included:
• Getting a pic with @goheels live Rameses mascot 🐏🩵
• @ncstatehowlingcow ice cream🍦
• Photo opp with a mischievous Casey Cardinal, the @ncstatefair mascot
• Giant pumpkins and watermelons🎃🍉
• Mill walk-through with free hushpuppies
• Roasted corn on the cob 🌽
• Hot spiced apple cider 🍎

Sunday, October 22 is the last day of the fair if you want to go this year! Pro tip: You can save a few dollars by bringing your own bottled water to wash your yummy fair food down with!

On another note, I’m so glad that I didn’t let having to go by myself keep me from going and enjoying the fair! People often cite “not having to plan around anyone else’s schedule” as an advantage of being single. However, the flip side of this is that you don’t have a built-in plus-one/companion who prioritizes you in their schedule to do things with. While I’m thankful to have great friends, the reality is that we all have busy lives and they aren’t always available to do everything with me that I want to do. And that is one really hard thing about singleness that I will gladly trade in someday even if it means less “freedom” in my schedule. However, one thing that I’ve really learned the past couple years is how to be okay with doing things by myself, even if I would rather have someone to do them with me. It’s better to go out and do something I reallly want to do (whether it’s go to the fair or the ballet) rather than missing out simply because I can’t find someone whose interest and schedule aligns to go with me!

Happy 100th Birthday to the Walt Disney Company! Thankful for all the joy and memories that Disney has provided me for 38 of those 100 years! From multiple visits to Disney World (ranging from age 4 to in my 30s) to growing up watching the animated movies (including a period where I watched Cinderella nearly every day), many of my core memories involve Disney! Here’s to many more years of magical memories! 🎂

This weekend and last weekend were pretty low key,

This weekend and last weekend were pretty low key, but two weeks ago I got up before the crack of Dawn so I could get a good spot on the @collegegameday set when they came to Duke! If you’ve been following me for any period of time, then you know that watching College GameDay is a beloved Saturday morning tradition for me in the fall! Getting to be live on the set was an amazing experience, and I’m so glad GameDay came close enough so the logistics worked out for me to go! I proudly wore my Clemson jersey and held my Clemson sign in a sea of Dook fans, even though Clemson had lost to them four weeks prior (figured that was safer than wearing UNC stuff 😂). The icing on the cake was that I got a few seconds of air time on @espn (swipe to see!). I also got one of the iconic @homedepot hard hats as a souvenir. If you’re a college football fan, I highly recommend experiencing GameDay live sometime!
