Styling Fall Essentials at For Garden’s Sake Durham

Hey there-hope this Thursday finds y’all well. Earlier this week I shared about my recent adventure picking apples in the NC mountains. Today I’m back with more fall fun, this time featuring an outing just fifteen minutes from home. After seeing pictures on Instagram, and recalling a couple of friends vaguely mentioning it, my best friend and I ventured to For Garden’s Sake, the most adorable nursery in South Durham. It did not disappoint, and was just as lovely as it appeared in pictures. And since this place screams quintessential fall, I had to wear an outfit that incorporated several of my fall favorites. So, I’m sharing a little bit about this new local discovery, plus a glimpse of my styling fall essentials at For Garden’s Sake Durham.

For Garden’s Sake Durham

For Garden’s Sake is located right over the Durham/Chatham County line on NC-751. It feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere, but in actuality you’re just a short drive from Southpoint Mall. My friend and I went late afternoon on a Saturday, about an hour before they closed at 5:00. It wasn’t super crowded at all then. Earlier in the day they had a Fall Fest event, so it was probably more packed then.

You will find plants plus a variety of lawn and landscaping needs at For Garden’s Sake. But even if you have a black thumb like me (I once killed a cactus FYI), you can still enjoy taking in all the fall things. There are pumpkins galore of varying sizes, plus plenty of open space to walk around, take pictures, and enjoy nature. In addition, there’s adorable goats.

They even had a swing set. My favorite photo app at For Garden’s Sake was this vintage light blue truck with hay and pumpkins sitting in the bed! They definitely knew they would get a lot of free advertising with people posting pics of this truck on Instagram.

Styling Fall Essentials

Last year I published a blog post featuring my top fall fashion essentials, which you can read here. This fall outfit I wore to For Garden’s Sake Durham incorporates a few of those closet staples: skinny jeans, cowgirl boots, and a printed scarf.

The specific jeans I’m wearing are Citizens of Humanity. I’ve had them for nearly eight years, so have definitely gotten my money’s worth with respect to cost per wear! You can find a similar pair here.

Ariat cowgirl boots will also forever be a crucial part of my fall wardrobe, regardless of whether they are in style. They are extremely durable. Plus they look cute, but are also comfortable for fall events where you’re doing a lot of walking. Here’s a pair of Ariat cowgirl boots almost identical to the ones I’m wearing here.

Finally, once cooler temperatures start to roll in, you will find me wearing a Lilly Pulitzer scarf about half the time. This particular Lilly Pulitzer infinity scarf is several years old. However, they currently have in a similar style but different print, and it’s under $50! You can check it out here. I’m also loving the Breast Cancer Awareness print Lilly scarf, which you can shop here. (In case you missed my post earlier this month about Lilly Pulitzer’s partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, you can check it out here.)

Orange Top

An orange top is another fall style essential that I did not include in my original blog post last year. But this is definitely a staple in my fall wardrobe, because I can easily wear it to a Clemson game, or simply to show my Tiger pride here in NC. This particular orange top I’m wearing is a Michael Kors that came from TJ Maxx several years ago. But I love it because the basic silhouette makes it conducive to pairing with a variety of accessories.

Tory Burch Bag

A Tory Burch bag is one of my style essentials for all seasons. They are definitely an investment, but if you take good care of them they will last for years. I’ve had the bag in this post for almost six years now! Thus, it’s no longer available. However, Tory Burch did add new handbags to the sale section of their website, and my current favorite is this classic brown leather tote.

Styling Fall Essentials

And of course, I have to mention that I’m holding a Starbucks pumpkin spice latte cup, one of my ultimate fall essentials! I hope that y’all enjoyed this post highlighting a new place I visited recently as Durham, and that it gave you some fall styling inspiration.

What are some of your fall fashion favorites? And what’s a new place in your own backyard that you’ve discovered recently? It’s definitely fun knowing that you can enjoy new places in your home city without having to book a plane ticket or drive somewhere far away!
