Hey y’all-happy almost Friday! Even though I had Monday off, I still feel like this week has been super busy. It’s been fun things that have kept me busy, but I’m definitely looking forward to some down time this weekend. One of those fun things was going downtown with a friend last night to see “The Color Purple” at the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC). We grabbed dinner at Tyler’s Taproom in the American Tobacco Campus beforehand. It was a bit chillier, so I wore an outfit with hints of spring that would still keep me warm. I wanted to share what I wore with y’all because about half this outfit came from TJ Maxx.
Why TJ Maxx Is Amazing
Seriously, TJ Maxx is one of my favorite places to shop. Going in there definitely requires self-control, and I’m not always successful with that. I can’t tell y’all how many times I have gone into TJ Maxx looking for one thing, and then come out with something completely different I “needed.” It’s so fun to go in there and see what bargains I can find. Also, it feels good to know I am spending a lot less than if I had bought a similar item at a department store or boutique. The TJ Maxx near me gets a lot of really great brands. However, I am trying to be better about only buying something if I really love it, not simply because it’s a good deal. One way I avoid impulse buying at TJ Maxx is to refrain from buying something the first time I see it. If I go back later and it’s still there, it’s meant to be.
The outfit I wore to the DPAC last night contains three finds from TJ Maxx: a Vince Camuto jacket, a Kate Spade scarf, and a Tahari top. I got the scarf in early 2015, the jacket in August 2016, and the top this past fall. All of these were worthwhile purchases in my opinion.
TJ Maxx Find 1: Kate Spade Lemon Print Scarf
If you’ve been reading my blog or following me on Insta, you know that I love anything with a fruit motif. So when I saw a Kate Spade scarf with a lemon print I had to have it. This scarf is perfect for early spring or cooler spring/summer nights. It also looks amazing with white jeans, and the yellow tassels are so fun.
TJ Maxx Find 2: Vince Camuto Jacket
In the early spring and early fall, there are often days and nights where it’s too cold for a cardigan to suffice, but too warm for a fleece jacket. I had been on the lookout for a cute lightweight jacket to suit such weather. When I stumbled upon this Vince Camuto jacket for a great price at TJ Maxx, buying it was a no-brainer. The neutral color goes with everything. This jacket was perfect to wear out last night when I didn’t want to wear a heavy jacket with my white jeans. Plus it’s April in the South, and I’m ready to say BYE to heavy jackets for awhile.
TJ Maxx Find 3: Gray Tahari Top
So you can’t see my top super well, and to be honest it was too chilly for me to want to take it off for a picture. But the gray top you can see peeping out from underneath my top is Tahari. It is super soft and comfortable, and the neutral color is perfect to accessorize with any scarf. According to the Tahari tag on this top, suggested retail is around $80. It was $20-$25 at TJ Maxx!
Everything Else
White jeans, Tory Burch flats, a seersucker headband, and my Tory Burch logo stud earrings rounded out this look. Even though it was a chillier spring evening, I liked that I could add a touch of spring by incorporating white jeans, seersucker, and a lemon print into my look.

Shout out to my friend Emily for taking these pics. I used my Canon Power Shot point & shoot camera, since I didn’t think I would be allowed to take my Canon Rebel DSLR into the DPAC. So the quality isn’t as good, but they definitely work and capture the essence of my ensemble.By the way, if you’re in the Raleigh/Durham area, I highly recommend catching a show at the DPAC. And American Tobacco Campus is such a nice place to walk around and grab a meal.
I have lots of exciting content for Palmettos & Pineapples swimming around in my head and am planning to work on that this weekend. The biggest challenge in blogging so far has not been coming up with content. Rather, it’s been finding time to put all my planned content in blog post form.
Cute outfit! I love TJ Maxx.
Thanks so much Brita! TJ Maxx is seriously the best!
