Plaid Seersucker: The Perfect Preppy Pair

Happy Hump Day! Hope y’all are having a great week so far, and that y’all have enjoyed the lifestyle and travel content I’ve put together lately. Tonight though, I’m focusing on fashion again, and sharing another outfit I wore during my recent girls’ trip to the beach. Our second night at the beach I wore one of my all-time favorite Lilly dresses, the plaid seersucker Franco dress, out to dinner. You really can’t go wrong with wearing a Lilly Pulitzer dress for an evening out at the beach!

Plaid Seersucker

The thing I love most about this Lilly dress is that it has a seersucker texture with a plaid pattern. Plaid seersucker is basically two preppy staples merged into one, aka the “perfect preppy pair.” Also, I adore the pastel color scheme of this plaid, which features pink, light blue, mint green, and yellow. Since the top of this dress is solid white, the pastel plaid pattern from the bust line down really pops. And seersucker is an essential in any preppy Southern woman’s summer wardrobe. Therefore incorporating seersucker into the plaid takes it to a whole new level.

The Franco Dress

The Franco was a popular style of Lilly dress from about 2010-2012. Distinguishing details of the Franco are the tie in the back and the opening below it. This adds a flirty touch without being too revealing. The plaid seersucker Franco is from the Summer 2012 collection. I remember wanting it really badly when it first came out, but I didn’t have a job back then so couldn’t justify paying anywhere near full price. Luckily I had the idea to try it on in a Lilly store so I would at least know how it fit and my correct size. In summer 2013, a year after it debuted, I found the plaid seersucker Franco for an amazing deal on 6pm (an online shopping site owned by Zappos). At that point I was working again, and the price was right so you bet I jumped on it. Five years later, this dress is still on rotation in my summer wardrobe. Good things are worth the wait!

Outfit Details Round-Up

Dress: Lilly Pulitzer  //  Necklace: Kendra Scott  //  Earrings: Kendra Scott  //
Watch: Micheal Kors (similar)  //  Bangle: Bourbon & Boweties  //  Shoes: Tory Burch

Unfortunately, my dress is no longer available, and I couldn’t find another plaid seersucker strapless dress exactly like it online. However, Lauren James has a strapless seersucker dress with a tie-back detail that is similar to the Lilly Pulitzer Franco. You can check out the classic seersucker here, and the solid seersucker version here.

(Side note: Something about the lighting in these pics makes it look like I have a big patch of gray hair. While I do have some grays, I promise they aren’t as prominent as it appears in some of these pics. I’ve never colored my hair before, and at this point I want to hold off as long as I can until I really start to go gray, which will hopefully be a long time from now.  Although I’m sharing this because I want y’all to know I actually don’t have that much gray hair, I also want y’all to know that it’s okay to post a picture that’s not 100% perfect.)

I hope that y’all enjoyed this post and as always, that its provided some beach vacation evening styling inspiration. What are your favorite types of dresses to wear out to dinner for an evening at the beach?
