No Buy Style Challenge: Spring Pastels Inspiration

Hey y’all-hope you’re continuing to stay safe and healthy. Today I’m teaming up with three other bloggers for the first installment of a monthly series we’re doing together: the “No Buy Style Challenge.” Brita from BelleBrita Blog invited me to participate in this fashion collaboration, and I thought it would be fun. Sidenote-I met Brita years ago during my time at Furman, and have enjoyed reconnecting with her in the blogging world. She shares my affinity for all things pink & Disney!

Anyways, here’s how the “No Buy Style Challenge” works–Each month, one blogger shares an outfit photo with the rest of the group. Then, the other three bloggers each use that photo as inspiration to put together an outfit from pieces already in their closet. I definitely love buying new clothes, but I don’t have the budget to get a completely new wardrobe each year. And to be honest, I really love the clothes I do buy, and want to wear them year after year. So while I will buy a few new things each year, I do A LOT of shopping my closet. It’s fun to put together new looks with tried & true favorite pieces, and the “No Buy Style Challenge” is encouraging ya’ll to get creative and do just that!

Here’s the inspiration photo Brita shared with us this month:

Spring Pastel Outfit Inspiration

Although this photo is from Brita Disney-bounding as Rapunzel during a recent trip, I took elements of this look to create a spring outfit for regular everyday life.

Here’s my look inspired by Brita’s photo:

Spring Pastels Outfit Inspiration

I don’t have a flowy skirt like the one Brita is wearing, but I went with the vibe of spring pastels and a solid knit top to create this ensemble from my closet. Plus if you look closely, you can see that my pale yellow skirt has a tonal floral design etched in it, which gives a nod to the flower crown in Brita’s original photo. Also, I must point out that my skirt has pockets!

No Buy Style Challenge

My yellow skirt is Lilly Pulitzer, and I’ve had it for almost nine years. I believe I bought it during the Pink Bee’s famous summer tent sale back when I was living in Greenville, SC. Perfect example of something that I keep in my closet and recycle year after year!

Fun fact-I took these photos this past Friday. The tinted moisturizer, cream blusher, sheer lipstick, and tinted brow gel I’m wearing in these pics is the most makeup I’ve worn over the past two and a half weeks. Most days while working from home during quarantine life I only put on tinted moisturizer, and only because it has SPF in it. If I’m feeling adventurous then I might put on a hint of lip color-haha!

See how the other ladies styled their looks based on Brita’s inspiration photo:

Charlene from Enduring All Things

Be sure to follow Brita, Callie, and Charlene; and stay tuned for next month when we return with more “No Buy Style Challenge” looks! Even though online shopping is still an option during the coronavirus pandemic, I personally don’t want to buy any clothes unless it’s a style I 100% know will fit. During this time I definitely don’t want to put any clothes on my body that I haven’t washed first, even for just a quick try-on. Another reason why shopping your closet for looks to wear out once social-distancing is over is a great option right now!

So cute! I’m also jealous that your skirt has pockets. And I love that you’ve had it for so long. The oldest thing in my wardrobe (not counting things I inherited) is a Lands End gray peacoat, which my parents bought for me when I was 13. Now it’s my only coat with sleeves that end at my wrists instead of well past my hands!

I absolutely love your skirt. I can’t believe you’ve had it for 9 years! That’s awesome! I really try to rewear everything in my closet and buy very few new pieces. Like you mentioned, I really like all the clothes I own. It took me a few years to find my style, but now I feel less and less of a desire to shop for new clothes all the time!

What a fun challenge! It’s always so nice when your clothes go a long way. Not just in wear but also in styling! I love your skirt and that’s so cool you’ve had it for nine years – way to go girl!
