Hey y’all-it’s hard to believe that it’s June. Personally, I’m glad it’s a new month because May was an extremely rough one for our country. I’m a week late sharing my May 2020 Favorites. If you’re new around here, I typically start each month here on Palmettos & Pineapples with a round-up of things I’m loving from the past month. Even though May was a heavy month, there were still some bright spots. Here’s a look at some things and experiences I loved about May:

Behind the Bliss Podcast 100th Episode
Behind the Bliss, one of my favorite podcasts, celebrated their 100th episode in May with a virtual live recording. The Behind the Bliss host, Rachel Awtrey, chatted with lifestyle blogger Kate Bowman of Lonestar Southern. Kate has blogged for years, and she loves the Lord and Lilly Pulitzer! I actually sprung for the VIP experience, and got to enjoy a special Zoom chat with Rachel & Kate, plus some other lovely ladies, prior to the live episode recording, In addition, I got a fun VIP goodie box from Pep & Party Co. It included a delicious sugar cookie from Caitlyn Nicole Bakery, and this gorgeous “Message from the Mess” mug.
The premise of “Behind the Bliss” encourages women to look beyond the highlight reels presented on social media, aka to be “met in their mess.” You may listen to a recording of the 100th episode of Behind the Bliss here. I particularly loved this encouraging nugget of wisdom Rachel shared that the Lord had revealed to her lately: “If you’re so focused on the end, you’re going to miss out on this journey.”
Lilly Pulitzer Luxletic Skorts
I restrained myself for the first few days of the 30-50% off Lilly Pulitzer Sale in early May. However, I broke down and bought two Luxletic skorts during the final day of the sale. I’m so glad that I did, and love both the Corrine Skort and the Monica Skort that I got. Lilly Pulitzer Luxletic Skorts are one of my latest obsessions. I bought my first piece of Lilly Luxletic during the After Party Sale last September, and knew I definitely wanted more. Although some COVID-19 restrictions are lifting, this summer will still be very different from years past. There will be fewer dressy occasions, and more casual outdoor gatherings. My new Luxletic Lilly skorts will be perfect for casual gatherings and lounging around at home.
Drunk Elephant T-Shirts
As I mentioned in my April 2020 Favorites post, I have been incorporating some Drunk Elephant skincare and body products into my clean beauty routine. On the Drunk Elephant website, they have some lifestyle apparel and accessories. I bought the Drunk Elephant Classic T-Shirt in both hot pink and neon yellow. It’s so soft and comfy. I got the pink one in a large for extra roomy loungewear, and the yellow one in a small to pair with my Lilly Luxletic skorts.
Draper James Sleeveless Gingham Nightgown
I first admired this sleeveless gingham nightgown from Draper James when I curated my pajamas and loungewear round-up blog post this spring. So when Draper James had a sale, I decided to get it. This precious nightie is super comfortable and perfect for Southern summer nights. It definitely runs true to size. So I advise ordering your usual size as opposed to sizing up for a roomy fit, which I tend to do with pajamas. If I had sized up in this, it would have been shapeless and frumpy, so I’m really glad I didn’t. Note that if you’re petite like me (I’m 5’3”), the nightgown will be considerably longer on you than it appears on the model. Definitely not a dealbreaker, but I still wanted to point it out!
Bruster’s Ice Cream Truck
One good thing that quarantine life and the coronavirus pandemic has done is make me slow down and really appreciate the simple joys in life. Back in early May, the Bruster’s Ice Cream Truck came to my apartment complex. This was something fun & different in my daily routine that I could appreciate even while most places were still closed and social gatherings were discouraged. This was my first time having Bruster’s, aside from one outing years ago in college, and it was so delicious! I got a mixture of Cookies & Cream and Cookie Dough.
Drunk Elephant Bare With Us Kit
I ordered the Drunk Elephant Bare With Us Kit during the Sephora Insider Sale, and it finally arrived in May after nearly three weeks of waiting. It’s such a gorgeous gift set with mini and medium sizes of multiple Drunk Elephant products, along with a collector’s box and book. The Bare With Us Kit includes a mini Jelly Cleanser, mini Lala moisturizer, mini Umbra Tint sunscreen, mini F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial, midi C-Firma Day Serum, and midi Glycolic Night Serum. I ended up liking the Umbra Tint sunscreen so much that I bought the full size. If you’re new to Drunk Elephant, this is a good set to try multiple products in smaller sizes before buying full-size products. And it’s a great collector’s item for any Drunk Elephant fan!
Amazon Three-Tier Bathroom Counter Organizer
I have very little counter space in my bathroom. Thus, bathroom organization has been a bit of a struggle. So I was excited to find this three-tier bathroom countertop organizer from Amazon. It’s very well-made and sturdy, and is a great solution if you also have limited bathroom counter space. I love that it gives me easy access to products I use frequently. And as silly as this sounds, the containers of my clean beauty products are so pretty, so I like having them on display.
Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Drops
Another Drunk Elephant product I incorporated into my routine in May 2020 that I love is the D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops. I add just one drop to my facial sunscreen, and it gives me a nice sun-kissed glow. In addition, these drops contain protective antioxidants. Combining the D-Bronzi Drops with Drunk Elephant Umbra Tint sunscreen is the perfect way to get a makeup-free glow!
Beautycounter Skin Twin Featherweight Foundation
Beautycounter launched their new & improved foundation in May, and I really like it! The Skin Twin Featherweight Foundation features buildable light to medium coverage. It’s very lightweight and natural-looking, like a second skin. The Skin Twin Foundation improves upon Beautycounter’s previous foundation formula because it’s longer-wearing and has nine times the hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid provides skincare benefits that plump skin and diminish appearance of fine lines over time. In addition, Skin Twin features an expanded shade range. Most of the additional foundation shades are darker skin-tones, making the foundation line more inclusive of BIPOC. Here’s a photo of me wearing the Skin Twin Foundation in shade “Medium 310,” along with other products in Beautycounter’s “Flawless in Five” clean makeup bundle:
I love the chic AND sustainable glass packaging too. If you’re interested in trying out the Beautycounter Skin Twin Foundation, please email me and I can get you a sample.
Archer Farms Peanut Butter Chocolate Trail Mix
Last month I ordered a different type of Archer Farms Target brand trail mix from Target. My Shipt shopper texted me to let me know it was out of stock, but that they could substitute with the Peanut Butter Chocolate variety. I gave it a try, and now I’m hooked! This contains “Puppy Chow” covered Chex pieces, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, peanuts, and mini peanut butter cups. I highly recommend!
Also, I have to give Shipt a shout-out. I had two different snafus with May grocery deliveries, and Shipt made it right both times. If you’re wanting to join Shipt, you can save $10 off an annual membership here.
Family Matters on Hulu
I started binge-watching Family Matters on Hulu during May. Hearing the theme song brings back so many memories of watching Family Matters on TGIF during Friday nights in the ’90s. A couple episodes touch on the theme of racism. In one episode, Laura has the n-word spray painted on her locker and a racial slur left in a note in response to her advocating for a black history course at her school. Then in another episode, Eddie gets pulled over for being a black guy in a white neighborhood, and his police office father sticks up for him.
Then on a lighter note, I loved re-watching the episode where the Winslow family and Steve Urkel go to Disney World!
New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp
A sweet friend sent me the devotional New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp at the very end of April, so I started reading it in May. The devotions don’t take long at all to read, but they are very powerful. I find them encouraging and convicting. There are also Scripture references for further exploration at the bottom of each day’s devotion.
