May 2019 Favorites

Wow y’all- it’s hard to believe that May has come to a close, and that 2019 is almost halfway over! Since it’s the end of another month, I’m continuing the tradition of sharing some things I’ve been loving over the past month. Without further ado, here are my May 2019 favorites!

Lilly Pulitzer Izzy Skirt in Little Flamenco

Lilly Pulitzer Izzy Skirt Little Flamenco

Although I’ve been making a conscious effort to shop less for clothing and accessories, I couldn’t resist picking up this new Lilly Pulitzer Izzy Skirt in the Little Flamenco pineapple print. I had a gift card I was able to put towards it. Thus, I felt less guilty about spending the money. In addition, the style screams classic Lilly. I love the appliqué trim at the hem. It’s also long enough to be appropriate for work. Finally, the print is completely on brand for me. This will be on repeat in my summer wardrobe this year (and for year’s to come!) and I am excited to share pictures of how I style it! Shop the Izzy Skirt here.

Tory Burch Tilda Nylon Crossbody

Tory Burch Tilda Nylon Crossbody

I also made an exception to my less shopping quest to purchase this Tory Burch Tilda nylon crossbody at Nordstrom. I had a navy nylon Tory Burch crossbody that I bought over three and a half years ago. It has served me well over those three and a half years, including a trip to Disney World! However, earlier this year I noticed that the strap was started to fray where it attaches to the body of the purse. (Note that this is the only Tory Burch bag I’ve had such an issue with, so I believe it’s a design issue and not a company quality issue). So when Nordstrom had their Double Points promotion earlier this month, I decided to buy it. I also put a Nordstrom Note that would be expiring relatively soon towards it.

The Tory Burch Tilda Nylon Crossbody is a little less roomy than my older nylon Tory Burch crossbody, but the strap is thicker, which I believe will make it more durable. Also, the slightly smaller size will also help me avoid overfilling it and thus putting increased stress on the strap. This will be the perfect bag for when I don’t want to carry a large purse, but also want something that I won’t have to worry about getting wet or dirty. I’ve already taken it to two Durham Bulls games this month. Shop the Tory Burch Tilda Nylon Crossbody here.

Wool E Bull’s Birthday Party

Wool E. Bull's Birthday Party

I will do a full blog post with additional details soon, but I had the best time going to a Durham Bulls game a couple weeks ago with two of my best friends. Wool E Bull is the Durham Bull’s mascot, and tons of mascots from around North Carolina came to help him celebrate. They had a meet and greet, and you can bet my friends and I were the adults without kids in line for that!

Girls’ Weekend with a Good Friend

May 2019 Favorites

The second weekend in May I had a girls’ weekend with a good friend before she graduated from Elon and moved halfway across the country for her first big girl job! Our time consisted of a two-night sleepover, complete with pizza, chocolate, movies, and Duck Donuts for Saturday morning breakfast. I will do another post in the future with some tips for having a fun girl’s night sleepover!

Vineyard Vines for Target

Striped Whale Throw Vineyard Vines for Target

I shared more about my Vineyard Vines for Target Haul in this post, but shopping this fun collaboration was definitely a highlight of my May. One of my favorite things I got was this striped whale throw, which is a great addition to the back of my couch.

Strawberry Picking

Picking my own strawberries and enjoying them with angel food cake and Cool Whip earns a spot as one of my May 2019 Favorites for sure! You can read more about my trip to the strawberry patch in this post. Also, I love how patriotic my strawberry angel food cake dessert looks on this Vineyard Vines for Target plate. Two of my May 2019 Favorites in one picture!

Memorial Day Weekend Beach Trip

May 2019 Favorites

During Memorial Day weekend, I enjoyed my first beach trip of the year to my family’s place in Emerald Isle, NC. It was lovely to get away for several days and celebrate the unofficial start of summer. I will share more about my trip in a travel diary post soon!

Honest Beauty Lash Primer and Mascara

As you already know if you’ve been following my blog for a little bit, I have been switching to safer personal care products. Beautycounter is my top pick for clean skincare and cosmetics, and I’m even a consultant. However, if I discover other personal care products with safer ingredients I will share those too. When I first became a Beautycounter consultant, the mascara was the one product I heard mixed reviews on. So I decided to took for a cleaner brand at Target to replace my Maybelline mascara. Of the two brands I’ve tried, Honest Beauty Mascara is the clear winner. It actually has a lash primer at one end of the tube, and the mascara at the other. I am so pleased with the smooth and clump-free application. The lash primer definitely helps!

One of the things I love about the culture of Beautycounter is how genuine and authentic the consultants are. With all the Beautycounter products out there, not everyone is going to love every product. It’s refreshing how honest Beautycounter consultants are with respect to the products they really love and don’t love. Beautycounter’s ultimate mission is to get safer products in the hands of everyone. So, if there’s a particular clean product from a different brand that works well for people, we fully support using it. I’m hooked on Beautycounter’s lipstick, blush, and tinted moisturizer, but I plan to stick with Honest Beauty for my mascara. You can also order the Honest Beauty Mascara directly from their website here.

Beautycounter Sheer Lipstick in Rose Shimmer

Beautycounter Sheer Lipstick Rose Shimmer

Speaking of Beautycounter makeup I love, my May 2019 Favorites also include trying out some new Beautycounter products for the first time. This post shares details on several Beautycounter products I’ve tried in May. However, I just received another Beautycounter shipment this week, and it included a new lipstick shade, the Sheer Lipstick in Rose Shimmer. I think this might be my favorite Beautycounter lipstick I’ve tried so far. It’s the perfect amount of color, the slightest bit of shimmer, and it’s extremely versatile. I feel like the Rose Shimmer lipstick will look good with almost everything in my closet, and that I can wear it year-round. You can shop Beautycounter Sheer Lipstick here.

Lipstick Could Be Revolutionary

Who Knew Lipstick Could Be Revolutionary

My latest Beautycounter order also included this t-shirt, which is a consultant-exclusive product. The quote “Who Knew Lipstick Could Be Revolutionary?” plastered across the front is a nod to Beautycounter’s efforts to reform the personal care industry through education and advocacy about the need for safer ingredients in all products. As I’ve mentioned before, I love being a Beautycounter consultant because it’s about so much more than lipstick and skincare. It’s educating and empowering people to be proactive about their health and make better choices with respect to what they put on their body. Also, the lettering on this reminds me of Kate Spade idioms!

Happy Mail from My Beautycounter Mentor

Beautycounter goodies

I got a sweet package from my amazing Beautycounter Mentor this month. It included a mini tube of the Beautycounter Charcoal Mask, some Beautycounter stickers and notebook, a Beautycounter Cleansing Balm sample, and the Cultivate What Matters Six-Month Power Sheets goal-setting planner. I had heard a lot about Cultivate What Matters and Power Sheets before, but have never actually used them. So I’m especially excited to dive into my Power Sheets in June.

Encouraging Blog Posts

As much as I love sharing about my favorite fashion finds, how I style outfits, travel destinations, and Beautycounter makeup, the best part of blogging is when I write deeper life posts to encourage y’all and hopefully point you to Jesus. May included two such posts: Navigating Grief & Loss (here), and Debunking Six Myths about Therapy (here). To everyone who has reached out to me to let me know how a blog post encouraged you, THANK YOU! That means more to me than I can express. I work really hard on this blog, and sometimes it’s a lot balancing it with a full-time job and personal life. But when people comment how my blog has had a positive impact on them, it reminds me that it’s all worth it!

Hope y’all enjoyed this glimpse of my May 2019 Favorites! Thanks so much for reading. What’s something you’ve been loving this past month?
