Hey y’all-I can’t believe July is almost over! The summer is seriously flying by. However, Labor Day is still six weeks away, which means plenty of time left to savor summer fashion. So for today, I’m sharing how I styled one of my summer favorites, a classic Lilly Pulitzer shift dress. A printed Lilly shift is appropriate for so many summer occasions, including a stroll through the American Tobacco Campus in downtown Durham. I had a blast shooting with Amelia Cassar Photography last week in one of my favorite areas of Durham.

The Liz Shift
This style Lilly dress is actually called the “Liz Shift,” so naturally I needed it in my closet. It is the epitome of a classic Lilly Pulitzer shift-simple silhouette, lace appliqué trim, and a bright animal print. I’m so glad I happened to love the fit of the Lilly dress that shares my name. This print is called “Crazy Cat House” and it incorporates some of my favorite things-cats and pineapples! The yellow and green color scheme is so happy, and I like the small pops of pink too.
Don’t Forget the Back!
I also really love the detail on the back of the Lilly Pulitzer Liz Shift. The lace appliqué extends all along the top of the back of the dress. Although the neckline is high in the front, it scoops down in the back. This adds a playful touch without being too revealing!
Tory Burch Marsden Tote
I accessorized with my new Tory Burch Marsden Tote from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! It is hands-down the best Tory Burch bag I have ever owned. The size is absolute perfect for toting all my stuff around. I can even fit my iPad with folio and large Lilly planner inside without it being too bulky. All my other bags have gotten way too heavy and bulky when I’ve tried to add both my iPad and planner inside.
The top of the tote is open, but there is a zipper compartment in the middle to stow stuff you want to keep extra secure. In addition, there is also an interior open pocket and interior zipper pocket. It’s definitely a splurge even on sale, but the savings are significant compared to when it will go back to full price in a couple weeks. Also, Tory Burch bags last forever. (Don’t forget that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is now open to everyone. You can check out my shopping guide here.)
Summer Shoe Staple
It’s fitting that I paired one of my go-to summer dresses with my go-to summer shoes, the Tory Burch Miller sandals. I highly recommend investing in a pair-this is the fifth summer I’ve worn this pair and they are still in great condition! Also, I broke out the Kendra Scott nail lacquer that was part of my swag bag at a blogger event I attended a few months ago. I’m loving the gorgeous turquoise shade. Also, how pretty is the bottle?!
Outfit Details Round Up
Dress: Lilly Pulitzer // Bag: Tory Burch // Earrings: Kendra Scott // Shoes: Tory Burch //
Watch: Michael Kors (similar) // Bracelet: Bourbon & Boweties
So this particular Lilly Pulitzer shift dress is actually from Spring 2014. But the Gabby Shift Dress in “Catty Shack” is a great currently available Lilly shift that features lace appliqué detail and a cat-themed print. I also really love the Mila Shift Dress in “On Parade,” which is one of my favorite current Lilly prints.
Also, my pearls were a 21st birthday gift from my parents that they bought in San Francisco. But if you’re looking for quality genuine pearl jewelry, I recommend Honora. Nordstrom actually has a set that includes a necklace, bracelet, and earrings. You can find it here.
Also, if you’re ever in Durham, NC, you definitely need to check out the American Tobacco Campus. It is absolutely gorgeous to simply walk around, and the sounds of the waterfalls are so peaceful. There are also great dining and entertainment options.
I hope that y’all enjoyed this post and that it provided some styling inspiration for classic summer staples. During the summer I wear printed Lilly Pulitzer shifts to work, church, brunch, showers, dinner out, etc. The possibilities are endless! Shoutout to Amelia Cassar for all these photos!
What is one of your classic summer wardrobe staples? I’d love to know!
