When Life Gives You Lemons

Happy Hump Day y’all! Labor Day weekend is oh so close. Today I’m back sharing a fun look that I wore out to lunch during my girls’ trip to the beach this past weekend. This ensemble features a Lilly Pulitzer lemon print skort and my Kate Spade lemon pendant necklace. My twist on a popular idiom about lemons is “when life gives you lemons, incorporate them into a fabulous outfit.” If you’ve been following my blog and Instagram for a bit, then you know I love me a fruit motif. This lemon-themed outfit was perfect to wear for a penultimate weekend of summer getaway. I like to think it symbolizes “squeezing” the most out of my summer wardrobe before it’s time to put up a lot of my favorite pieces after Labor Day.

Lilly Pulitzer Lemon Print Skort

I am wearing a Lilly Pulitzer skort in the “Sweet and Sour” print. This is from Lilly’s Spring 2015 collection and I bought it from the sale rack at the Hilton Head Belk that summer. It’s actually a couple sizes too big for me, but since I really loved this Lilly Pulitzer lemon print and it was on sale I bought it anyways. Rather than altering it, I simply wear it lower on my hips so that it’s like a skirt. This actually works out well because I am able to wear this skort to work, whereas my other Lilly shorts are too short for work. In addition to being a really cute lemon print, I also love the name of this Lilly print. “Sweet and sour” is symbolic of what this summer has been like for me. There have been some sweet parts, but also some really sour parts.  Lastly, I love the appliqué detail near the hemline of this skort.

Accessorize It

My Kate Spade lemon pendant necklace, which I’ve featured multiple times on the blog, is one of my favorite statement pieces for summer. And I feel like it is especially fitting to pair it with a Lilly Pulitzer lemon print. I bought this necklace about four years ago when it was on sale, so unfortunately it is no longer available. However, Kate Spade does have a super cute pineapple necklace here, and it’s an extra 30% off with code “ONEOFAKIND” through September 5.

I’ve also been wearing my Lauren James seersucker headband as much as possible between now and Labor Day. Hopefully Lauren James will make it available again on their website next spring and summer!

In other news, Lilly Pulitzer just released their dates for the big After Party Sale. It will be September 10-12 this year. I will be writing a post next week with some more detailed tips for shopping the sale. But in case you want to browse and make a wish list, here are some of my favorite skorts currently on their website:

Madison Skort (I especially love the “On Parade” print)
Cassia Skort (Raz Berry Catty Shack is my fave print in this style)
Lorelie Skort
Luxletic Josephine Skort

Hope y’all enjoyed this post and that it provided some last minute styling inspiration for Labor Day weekend, or some advance inspiration to keep in the vault for next summer. Also, these pictures were taken at The Trading Post, one of my favorite restaurants in Emerald Isle. You can read more about it in my Emerald Isle Travel Guide. The Trading Post has a really great “backyard” area with corn hole, hula hoops, and fun seating. It wasn’t crowded when we had a late lunch there, so it was perfect for taking pictures.

Are any of the Lilly skorts I linked above on your wish list for the After Party Sale? If so, which styles and prints? Stay tuned for my upcoming post with tips for shopping the sale! Also, come say hi on Instagram, because I love to connect and interact with my readers on there.
