June 2019 Favorites

Hey y’all, and happy July! It’s hard to believe that another month has passed, and that 2019 is officially halfway over! Does anyone else feel like we were just ringing in the New Year a couple weeks ago? I’m torn between wanting time to slow down, because I love summer, but also excited that another month gone by means one month closer to football season! Anyways, in keeping with my monthly tradition here on Palmettos & Pineapples, I’m sharing my June 2019 Favorites!

80’s Kickball

My BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) class had an 80’s themed kickball night in June. This was probably the first time I had played kickball since middle school. Although I’m not very good at kickball, it was still a lot of fun pulling together an 80’s looking ensemble from things I had in my closet, and enjoying fellowship. And I did make it around the bases once haha!

Goodberry’s

Goodberry’s is a custard chain that originated in Raleigh, and is mostly local to the Raleigh/Durham area of NC. Despite living in the area for over five years, I didn’t experience Goodberry’s until a few weeks ago. My BSF class went after our 80’s kickball game. I got a Carolina Concrete, which is your choice of custard flavor mixed with a topping. My chocolate custard with m&m’s Concrete hit the spot!

Beautycounter Launch Pop-Up

I hosted my first-ever in-person Beautycounter Pop-Up in June. Although I became a consultant in April, it took a couple months before I was ready to get out of my comfort zone and host one. A small group of my close friends came, and it was a fun night of eating snacks, sharing the importance of choosing safer beauty products, and sharing some of my favorite products. I never want to be overly sales-y with Beautycounter, and fortunately their mission to get safer products in the hands of everyone lends to passionately and authentically sharing my excitement for this new side-gig! I absolutely loved wearing my Beautycounter shirt (originally featured in my May 2019 Favorites) that gives a nod to Beautycounter’s mission.

Lilly Panda S’well Bottle

At the beginning of June, Lilly Pulitzer had a gift with purchase agenda pre-order promo. If you pre-ordered an agenda, you got a Lilly S’well bottle of your choice for free. This promo sold out extremely quickly, so I am so thankful to have gotten in on it. I had been wanting the 25oz S’well bottle in the Hangin’ with My Boo panda print for awhile. However, I couldn’t justify paying $54 for a water bottle, especially when I already had two other Lilly S’well bottles. Hangin’ with My Boo is one of my top 10 all-time favorite Lilly prints.

Lilly Pulitzer S'well Bottle

From an economical standpoint, this might be the best Lilly gift with purchase ever, since the free item cost considerably more than the item I bought! I got the large Lilly agenda in the Multi Cheek to Cheek print. Although I don’t have any clothing in this print, it’s one of my favorites from recent Lilly releases. Lilly Pulitzer depleted the inventory of S’well bottles with the short-lived gift with purchase promo, but you can shop all Lilly agendas here.

Wrightsville Beach Trip

A long weekend in Wrightsville Beach, NC with my best friend was definitely one of the highlights of my June! We had good weather most of the time, and enjoyed relaxing on the beach with good books, eating at some delicious local restaurants, and morning walks to get coffee and smoothies. I will be sharing a full Wrightsville Beach travel guide on the blog later this month, so stay tuned!

Gus the Black Lab

Another highlight of my Wrightsville Beach trip was meeting Gus, my friend’s sister’s black lab puppy. Anyone who knows me knows that it is very unusual for me to get excited about meeting a dog. I am NOT a dog person at all. In fact, I’m actually scared of a lot of dogs, and just flat-out annoyed by others. However, I do have a soft spot for labradors, and actually love them! They are so cute, and have the sweetest personality. Gus was so exception. He loved showing off for his visitors, and was very well-behaved for an energetic lab puppy who hadn’t had formal obedience training yet.

Oreo Cookie Jar Blizzard

We made a Dairy Queen run one night in Wrightsville Beach, and I got an Oreo Cookie Jar Blizzard. This is one of their limited edition summer flavors, and it includes Oreos, cookie dough pieces, and fudge sauce. So incredibly good!

Ursa Major Hoppin’ Fresh Deodorant

I finally found an aluminum-free deodorant I’m happy with! One of the perks of being a Beautycounter consultant is that I get a 15% discount on select products from a few other clean beauty brands. So I decided to give the Ursa Major Hoppin’ Fresh Deodorant a try. Unlike other natural deodorants I had previously tried, Ursa Major goes on smoothly. Although it doesn’t keep me 100% dry on super hot and humid days, it works better than any other aluminum-free deodorant I’ve tried. I honestly think it works better than the clinical strength aluminum-based deodorant I was using previously. You can shop Ursa Major deodorant here. I highly recommend giving it a shot if you’re in the market for an aluminum-free deoardant.

Aerie Navy Gingham Seersucker Bikini

I loved the pink seersucker ruffle bikini I bought from Aerie at the beginning of pool season so much that I had to get it in navy gingham seersucker when Aerie had another swimsuit sale. Aerie is now my official go-to for bathing suits, and the fact that they encourage body positivity is a bonus. Shop the bikini top here, and bikini bottoms here. Note that the bottoms run bigger. I sized down from what I usually wear in bikini bottoms. If you’re unsure of sizing, I recommend ordering two sizes, since Aerie has free returns on all swimwear!

Côte Nail Polish

I also tried a new nail polish brand in June through Beautycounter’s Clean Slate partnership. Côte Nail Polish is free from formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, DBT, toluene, and other toxins found in conventional nail polish. I bought the No.17 polish color, as well as base coat and top coat. The consistency is the same as any other nail polish, which shows that you don’t have to use toxic ingredients for effective beauty products. I purchase my Côte products through my Beautycounter consultant back office, but you can shop directly from their website here.

Beautycounter Cleansing Balm & Aftersun Cooling Gel

The Cleansing Balm and the After Sun Cooling Gel are two Beautycounter products I’ve started using in the past month. The Cleansing Balm is one of Beautycounter’s best-sellers, and you can use it as a cleanser, makeup remover, moisturizing mask, or all of the above. I use it to remove my face makeup prior to using my usual cleanser. It’s a thick balm that melts as you rub it on your face. Then you use a wet cloth or cotton pad to wipe it away, and then rinse your face afterwards. Although you can use the Cleansing Balm as a cleanser, I prefer to use it as a preliminary step to my main cleanser, especially if I’m wearing face makeup. It smells absolutely amazing, feels so luxurious too. Shop the Cleansing Balm here.

I also really like the Aftersun Cooling Gel, which is one of Beautycounter’s newest products. Even though I am fortunate and don’t burn easily, it still feels good to put some on after day in the sun, to counter the sun’s drying effects. Plus, the tropical smell is amazing. Shop the Aftersun Cooling Gel here.

The amazing smell of both the Cleansing Balm and Aftersun Cooling Gel comes WITHOUT artificial fragrance, which Beautycounter never uses in any of their products. Did you know that companies aren’t required to disclose the ingredients in “fragrance” because it’s considered a “trade secret?” So when you use any product that has “fragrance” or “parfum” as an ingredient, there could be all sorts of hidden allergens and hormone disrupters.
