February 2020 Favorites

Hey y’all-and happy March! I’m definitely excited for the fresh start of a new month. In addition, March is one of my favorite months of the year because it brings March Madness basketball, the start of spring, and my birthday! But before we get too far into March, I want to recap my favorite things from February. So continuing this monthly tradition on Palmettos & Pineapples, here are my February 2020 favorites!

New Lilly Pulitzer Pajamas

I loved the “60 Animals” print Lilly Pulitzer pajama set I got during the January After Party Sale so much that I wanted to add the “Swizzle In” long-sleeves pajama top and shorts to my collection. However, I didn’t want to pay full-price, and the next After Party Sale is months away. After looking at the Lilly website, I realized that the “Swizzle In” pajama shorts were selling out in a lot of sizes. This indicates that they might not even make it to After Party Sale, or if they did it would be slim picking. So, I decided to use a Lilly gift card I still had from Christmas to get the “Swizzle In” pj shorts.

Then a couple weeks later, The Pink Pearl (locally owned Lilly Pulitzer signature store near me) had all their sale items and extra 20% off. I was able to get the “Swizzle In” long-sleeved pajama top in a size that worked for me, along with a pair of cotton pajama pants in the “Pink Paradise” print. The amount I paid out of pocket for each of these three Lilly pj pieces was comparable to After Party Sale prices. So, I’m glad I went ahead and treated myself to more new Lilly pajamas!

Kitten Bowl

Watching the Kitten Bowl on Hallmark Channel is one of my favorite Super Bowl Sunday afternoon traditions. I really don’t need to say much else-it’s simply cuteness overload watching a bunch of sweet, adoptable kittens try to score touchdowns as they play with cat toys.

Cat on Lilly Blanket

I got my mom this fleece Lilly Pulitzer blanket for Christmas. Apparently their sweet senior tuxedo cat, Blizzard has taken a liking to it. My parents have sent me some sweet pictures of Blizzard napping on the Lilly blanket. They’ve also sent videos of him kneading is paws aka “making biscuits” while purring. Blizzard’s late brother, Timex, loved napping on Lilly Pulitzer things, and also loved “making biscuits” on fleece blankets. So I can’t help but think our Blizz is honoring his brother’s memory.

New Bed

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that I went mattress shopping and got a new bed! I felt like such an accomplished adult doing this all by myself. I will write a blog post later on with additional details about my mattress shopping experience. But for now, here’s a pic of me hanging out on my new bed (same bedding as previous bed) in my new Lilly Pulitzer pajamas. I figured my first night in the new bed definitely called for Lilly pjs!

Beautycounter Mica Documentary

I love Beautycounter because they are committed to the highest level of ingredient safety and transparency in cosmetics. However, I also love that they strive to use ethically and responsibly sourced ingredients. Mica is what gives makeup its shimmer. But the sad reality is that many mica mines around the world employ children as young as four, who are forced to work in dark and scary conditions. Some mica mines give out certificates that state they don’t use child labor, but unfortunately these pieces of paper are not always accurate. Therefore, Beautycounter has committed to conducting in-person audits of all mica mines in their supply chain to make sure no inhumane working conditions exist.

Beautycounter Mica Documentary

At the beginning of February, Beautycounter released a chilling documentary about the realities of the mica mining industry in cosmetics, and what they are doing to make a difference. In addition to conducting these in-person audits of mica mines, Beautycounter is compiling a toolkit for other cosmetics  companies to use as a resource for responsible and ethical mica sourcing. You can watch the documentary here. It’s totally worth 12 minutes of your time! Forbes also wrote this great article on how Beautycounter is revolutionizing the mica industry.

Girls’ Weekend

The first weekend of February, my best friend and I had a super relaxing girls’ weekend. We basically vegged out and spend the majority of our time watching Disney Plus, with breaks to go to Starbucks, Jason’s Deli, and Moe’s. Of course we ordered a pizza as well, one of our favorite traditions. Check out this post for more tips on how to have a fun girls’ weekend staycation!

Fishtail Braid

I taught myself how to do a fishtail braid in February. Honestly, I was surprised at how easy it is, especially because I’m not super proficient with braiding, especially my own hair. I simply googled “How to do a fishtail braid” and found a good site that helped me. In short, you divide your hair into two sections, and then take a piece from the outside of one section and pull it over to the inside of the other section. Just keep alternating until you’re finished!

Avocado Salsa

I had seen this Tostitos avocado salsa and been curious about it. So when my small group had a taco bar dinner gathering last week, I figured it was perfect chance to try it out! It was delicious, and basically tastes like salsa and guacamole mixed together.

Snow in NC (Finally)

After going over 400 days without a single snowflake, central North Carolina finally got a dusting of snow towards the end of February. It was probably only about an inch, and definitely not as significant as prior snowfalls. But it was still fun to watch. And as a result I got a little bit of snow day time off from work. I got to go home about an hour early on the Thursday afternoon it snowed. Then I went into the office for just the afternoon the next day, since low overnight temperatures created black ice.

Carolina-Duke Game

The one silver lining of Carolina having an awful basketball season is that my parents gave my brother and me their tickets to the UNC-Duke game in Chapel Hill. Although I wish the outcome had been different (UNC lost in an overtime heartbreaker), I’m still glad I got to be there to experience the game in person. In case you’re unfamiliar with college sports, UNC/Duke basketball is probably the greatest rivalry in all of sports. Only eight miles separate the two schools, and both programs have a rich tradition. No matter the season, emotions are always intense when these two teams meet for basketball! Considering UNC’s bought season, the game was actually a lot closer than I thought it would be!

Primally Pure

I officially became an affiliate for Primally Pure, another safe skincare and body care company, at the very end of January. Then the first week of February I got a box of Primally Pure goodies that I purchased with a discount code they sent me. I really like the lip balm and dry shampoo. I haven’t tried the Everything Spray yet, but am excited to test it out. And since I’m getting to the end of my current tube of Primally Pure lemongrass deodorant, I will be trying the charcoal deodorant soon. I’m hoping that the insect spray will help keep those pesky mosquitos away when I’m trying to enjoy a peaceful summer evening by the pool. If you’re interested in ordering anything from Primally Pure, you can save 10% with code “LS10.” Shop all Primally Pure here.

“Mean Girls” the Musical

So I just did a full post on “Mean Girls” the musical the other day, but I had to mention it again here, since seeing this musical was one of the highlights of my February!

I hope y’all enjoyed reading all about some of my February 2020 favorites! What are some things you’ve been loving lately?

Also, I have decided for at least the month of March, I am going to scale back to just one blog post a week, coming out on Mondays. I have been really overwhelmed lately and am simply having trouble balancing it all. I don’t want to give up blogging, but the truth is it takes a lot of time to create content. Blogging does not pay my bills, so I work 40 hours a week at a full-time job. Also, my weekly bible study groups and in-person relationships in Christian community are very important to me, so I can’t spend every moment I’m not at work doing things for the blog. I decided one weekly blog post is much more feasible for me. However, I am going to start doing more window-shopping round-ups in the LIKEtoKNOW.it app, so be sure and follow me there if you aren’t already.

This change in my blogging schedule will give me a chance to get blog posts written well before the date they go live, and will also give me more time to do some coursework I’ve purchased to become a better and more efficient blogger. Of course, I will still be hanging out on Instagram and engaging with my community here, so give me a follow if you aren’t already. You can also like my Facebook page here, and subscribe to my e-newsletter here.

Hope y’all have a great week and lovely start to March!
