Hey y’all! Today I want to share this GORGEOUS calligraphy wood sign from Written + Rooted that I got for my birthday. Ecclesiastes 3:11 is one of my favorite Bible verses, because it reminds me that God’s timing is PERFECT. It is so hard at times to surrender control of my life to God’s perfect plan & timing. Of course He shows me time & again that His plan & timing are so much better than anything I could ever dream of from my limited human perspective. Yet, it’s much easier to believe this looking backwards than it is while I’m in the middle of something. The fact that I so easily forget God’s faithfulness in the past shows me just how much I need to depend on Him daily. And goodness does it make me ever thankful for His never-ending grace & patience with me.
Having this sign on the wall in my living room gives me a constant reminder of this amazing truth from God’s word.
To Everything a Season
Ecclesiastes 3:11 is a great reminder of God’s beautiful and perfect timing. However, this verse is even sweeter when taken in the context of the the preceding verses in Ecclesiastes 3. This chapter starts off with the following:
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
(Ecclesiastes 3:1, NIV)
In verses 2-8, King Solomon presents multiple pairs of juxtaposing seasons. For instance:
“a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,”
(Ecclesiastes 3:4, NIV)
This side of eternity there will be joyful seasons and sorrow-filled seasons. Sometimes they will coexist right alongside one another. God uses every season of life to shape us and refine us. And for those who trust in Jesus, we can look forward to an eternal season of nothing but absolute bliss with Him!
Savor Your Season
Lately, God has really been teaching me a lot about savoring the season I’m in. For the longest time, I was bitter and resentful that I hadn’t reached certain seasons of life on the timetable I had set for myself. I was mad at God for not giving me what I thought I should have when I thought I should have it. And I resented others who were already experiencing the season of life that I so desperately wanted to experience.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, friends and mentors speaking truth into my life, professional counseling, and the encouraging words of some Christian bloggers that I stumbled upon, my heart slowly softened. I began to focus on the great aspects of the current season of life I’m in, and the unique opportunities God has put in front of me right now.
Currently, I’m in a season where I can really discover more about myself and who God has made me to be, where I can grow in my relationship with God, and where I can really invest in friendships. I’m can also focus on the fun & rewarding creative outlet this blog offers me. I do hope to get married and have a family someday. But instead of dwelling on not being in that season yet, I am embracing all the great things I do have during this season. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely don’t always do this perfectly. Satan definitely tries to pull me back into my old ways. However, when I look at where I am now versus where I used to be, I rejoice at the work God has done in my life.
A Couple Resources
The two Christian bloggers whose words have encourage me immensely are Natalie Metrejean Lewis and Stephanie May Wilson. I honestly can’t completely remember how I stumbled across their social media and blogs, but I do know it God completely ordained it. Both of them are filled with the Holy Spirit and speak such amazing and encouraging truths about God’s sovereignty and goodness. Natalie & Stephanie are especially encouraging to single women, challenging them to make the most of their season of singleness. However, anyone can benefit from their Godly wisdom, so you should check out their blogs no matter what stage of life you are in. In fact, Natalie & Stephanie are both married now, and they share how the struggle to trust God’s perfect plan and timing doesn’t go away once you’re married!
Written + Rooted
As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, this gorgeous sign came from Written + Rooted. The daughter-in-love of one of my old Bible study leader (who has remained a close friend and mentor) started Written + Rooted last year as an outlet to use her gift of calligraphy & lettering to work with and bless others. Kit is so talented, and she’s also as sweet as can be. If you’re in need of any type of custom lettering or calligraphy, send a message to @writtenandrooted on Instagram. She does signs like mine of various sizes, as well as wedding invitations. She also does the most precious Christmas ornaments, which I will share when the holidays roll around. If you’re in the Greenville, SC area, some of the local boutiques carry her work!
This sign is the most perfect addition to my living room, and serves as a constant reminder to savor the season I’m in because God’s perfect timing is BEAUTIFUL.
As much as I love sharing fashion and travel inspiration, I want to share a little bit of my heart from time to time. I’m praying that this post could be an encouragement to at least one person out there.
